HEBBORN FAMILY HISTORY & NEWS -  November 2001

19th NOVEMBER 1857

On this day Frank Walker Hebborn [H006] son of Peter William Walker Hebborn [G001] and his wife Sarah Anne nee Hoare [G002w] was baptised at St Martins in the City of Oxford. Frank Walker Hebborn moved to London as a young man. He married in Mile End in June Quarter 1892. Does anyone out there have any more details of that marriage? We know of three children of this marriage:
1. William Arthur Walker Hebborn [J003] 1892-1908.
2. Frank Walker Hebborn [J004] born 1894, married Emma Purcell.
3. Eliza Walker Hebborn [J005] born 1896, married Robert Henry Simmons.

Frank Walker Hebborn [H006] married secondly Amelia Elizabeth Spence. By this marriage, he had a son and a daughter:
4. William Edward Walker Hebborn [J006] born 30 Sep 1910 in Poplar, married Doris Aldred in 1937.
5. Edith Amelia Walker Hebborn [J007]  born 1912 in Poplar.

Both Frank Walker the younger and William Edward married and had children. It seems that
In turn all their male children had families, ensuring that the Walker Hebborn line is alive and
thriving to this day.

Frank the older was the son of William Peter Walker Hebborn and his wife Sarah Ann Hoare. William P.W. is something of an enigma. The first reference I have to him is his marriage at Littlemore on 7 Jan 1850. The certificate shows he was “of full age” and the son of “Joseph Hebborn”. In the 1851 Census, he gives his age as 25 years, born at Frilford, Berks. No baptism entry has been discovered to date, but it seems pretty certain that his parents were Joseph Hebborn [1799-1840] and his wife Mary Walker who died in 1858 aged 55 years. If this assumption is correct then William Peter Walker Hebborn was a first cousin of William Hebborn [G002] of Cowley. [Featured in October Anniversaries]. I am still trying to prove this conclusively. Is there a “Walker Hebborn” out there who can help?

I am sorry we do not have a photograph of Frank Walker Hebborn for the gallery. Can anyone oblige?

More information about Frank Walker Hebborn has come to light since this article appeared in November 2001. Research into his interesting life continues. A further article about him is planned.  See revised CHART

1st NOVEMBER 1892.
On 1 Nov 1892, Elizabeth West was born in Cowley, Oxon. She married Frederick George Hebborn [J013] in 1913. After the First World War they started the Hebborn Fun Fair. Elizabeth exerted a powerful influence on the business, which survived the dark years of the 1930’s depression. At the same time, she managed to bring up a family of eight children. The fair continues to this day in the hands of her grand children and great grand children.

I’m looking to her grand daughter, Joan Williams, for more on this branch of the family in a future article. In the meantime, a photo of Fred and Elizabeth looking out from their trailer appears in ‘
